Cute 'HAIR' bow!

A Nonstop Weekend

Had some friends come to stay with me this weekend.  As soon as they had their stuff in their room we were off and running!

Friday:   There was a free museum showing.  We got to tour a historic house, listen to carolers, go to a petting zoo, have refreshments, play games, make an ornament,  and climb on trees.  All for free!!!!
Saturday:  Once we woke up there was a check list a mile long!
1.  Breakfast
2.  Get ready  (First outfit for the girl)
3.  Make cupcakes
 4.  Feed the ducks
5.  Library for books, movies and computer time

 6.  Visiting an awesome big park!

 7.  Have lunch
8.  Decorate the cupcakes for the fire men

 9.  Stopped at Hobby Lobby for a gift.
10.  Went to see 'Big Hero 6'  (Second outfit for the girl)
 11.  Went to Target to learn about returning items....
12.  Fire station to drop off cupcakes and tour the fire trucks
13.  Nature hike/park (Third outfit for the girl)
14.  Play Wii while I made dinner
15.  Play with dress up clothes while I made dinner  (Fourth outfit for the girl)
16.  Ate dinner...and they had seconds!

 17.  Decorate a Gingerbread house. (Fifth outfit for the girl)

 18.  Wrap presents

 19.  Watch a Christmas movie
20.  Showers
21.  Read
22.  Bed time (PJ's the 6th time the girl has changed her outfit.)

I stayed up to listen to their conversation for a bit before heading to bed.  The girl asked her brother what he wanted to be when he grew up...his response was 'a street drag racer'.  The brother asked the same question his sister and she said that she wanted to be a teacher just like me........

 Sunday:  We went to church
I brought plenty of stuff for the kids to do and eat.
After church we dropped off presents at my Aunt's house, we picked up pictures and came home to make scrap books!  We also measured our heights!  They grew almost 3 inches from the last time they were at my house.

And time for them to go home........Until we meet again.

Other Projects my Dad Helped me with While he was Here Visiting!

He helped me paint the outside of the house....He taped up all the windows and outlets.  We got the painting done in two days.
The nice Pergola with hanging plants.

Painted under the outer ledge of the roof....my neck will never be the same again!
He got on the roof to paint the edge of the top part of the garage.
He took down my chandelier and put up the smaller light.
He took down the medicine cabinet and patched the holes.  Then I repainted.....I need to put a mirror there.
He took down a wall desk and filled in the holes.  I repainted the section.
He took down this book shelf and filled in the holes.  I need to go to Lowes to get more of this paint.
Dad put up a globe light in one of my rooms!
We patched and painted the edges of my bathroom.  The paint isn't sticking to whatever I put underneath....I don't know how to finish this project.
So I painted again but I don't think it's going to work.
And he shaved down both of these doors so they will now shut.

Couldn't have done all this!  Plus more (I didn't mention about collecting leaves twice in my yard)!  Love you Dad with all my heart!

First time putting Flashing on a Roof!

Since my new Pergola doesn't have a cover, I needed to put flashing on the roof so water would be directed into the gutters.
This was the first time my Dad and I worked with tin and it was a great experience.

Here is the flashing that was already on the roof.  Home Depot didn't have any flashing that looked like this so we just bought what was recommended.
So glad we got two sheets.
Dad figuring out how to position the flashing before the contractor came to help us put up the Pergola.
Dad did a test run on how to make a corner piece.  I had to buy some tin snips.
Dad thought the Dremel tool would work better.
You cut a 'V' shape and then bend the tin so it makes an 'L'.

The Dremel tool didn't work very well....but it looked really cool!
Make sure to wear gloves.  He still cut many of his fingers.
Then he taped the middle junction so the 'L' would keep it's shape.
We put the flashing under the shingles.
Then we hammered nails into the shingles and flashing to hold it in place.
Here it is ready for the caulking.
We caulked the edges, some of the shingles, and the nails.
Dad did not do very well with this part of the project so I took over and finished the job.
And here is the finished project.
