Lovely students

Today and boy asked me what 'manifest' meant. I told him that it meant 'to show'. He said, " Wow! Miss........... you're like a walking dictionary! Your amazing!"

Little does he comprehend that I have taught this class for three years and I teach it four times a year!

Still......being called 'amazing' never gets old.

Ave L. neighbor's brick barbecue

We also knew the house was correct on Ave L. because their neighbors still had the brick barbecue in their back yard. Though it looks run down a bit.

Dad's house on Ave. L

2) Even though the front posts are now metal, Dad knew this was the house because the window on the front door matches the one on the black and white photo.
2) Here is the water main hole that is located on the second black and white picture.
1) Here you can tell that there isn't a garage anymore. But there is a driveway-therefore we can conclude from the black and white picture that they have converted the drive-way to make the house bigger.
The man that owns the house now told us this house never had a garage. We looked at our picture and asked him....."Then why is there a drive-way?"

A man came to our car while we were trying to find this house. He asked us what we were doing. When we told him he asked for my Dad's name. When Dad said, Jim........, the neighbor remembered Dad's family. He told us that Dad's house was the last one on the block, he went there for parties all the time, and those were great days!

Dad's house on Gloria Ln.

This was a hard house to find. Especially since the old pictures only show the back of the house. But Dad remembered the car port and the front door was on the side.

In the black and white photos you can see the neighbor's windows like in the picture above.

My dad's school

Dad said that as a child he threw a tennis ball at one of these windows and broken it.
Well, he truly said that, "A child threw a ball into one of these windows and that boy could have been me." :)
Crocket School 1925. Dad said on his first day of school he was so excited that he rode his bike to school and made it an hour early.

Sobrina in Ballet class

Memories

On our family road trips we would sing hymns. This past trip to OR, I got a video of my favorite song we would sing as a family.

A Comment Made in My Class

A boy said this in class the other day and it made me stop and smile...

"Miss ...........,

It's really a weird feeling to wear short pants because the air only touches my ankles."

Hummmmm...........

Creative answer

Morpheme -ive means: inclined to be

I tell the student's that I'm going to set them up on a blind date. And their date is going to be attractive. Then I ask them, "What's the first thing you think?"

A boy student says: "sex".

At least he is honest.

A new way of learning

We were learning the definition for 'ovation'. I asked the students what ovation sounded like. One student said, "ovaries".

Go with the flow right?

The student proceeded to describe (with hand visuals) how ladies have two ovaries. And one could pretend the ovaries are hands clapping for when the lady has a baby.

This reminded me of one of my student's who made an edible replica of the female reproductive system!

Sobrino loves to suck his thumb!

He's just not very good at it. Once it's in his mouth he jerks and he can't find his thumb again.

Skyping with My Sister, Nephew, and Niece

Sobrino adores his sister, sobrina. There is this amazing connection between the two. When I visited over Christmas he would start to cry and I would ask sobrina to sing to him and he would stop crying. In these pictures you can just tell he is absorbing everything she has to offer him.

God's wonderful path

First, I never wanted to be a teacher.

Second, I told the principle during my interview that I didn't care for kids.

Third, God was bigger than my actions and gave me the greatest opportunity of my life; teaching.
