¿Adónde vas?

On the board...each student had to ask another student ¿Adónde vas?
Each student had to reply..."Voy a......"
Then they had to write the answer in the third person..."_______va a ....."

So, each student got to use three different conjugated form for the verb 'Ir'....in a multi-sensory way...speaking, hearing and writing.

Estoy practicando mi español

¡Hola!  Me llamo Becky.

Me gusta mi familia.  Vacaciones de primavera está cerca....¿Adónde voy?......

Spelling with Gummy letters...Yey!

Need to fix my roof.

The part of the plastic cover that ripped off.

Wood under the plastic cover that has broken.

View of the hole created by the plastic ripping off.

My temporary fix to hold the plastic down so it's not flapping when the winds come.  My poor neighbors.

But pleasantly surprised to find my Jasmine bush is booming...in February!

Mom and sister...if you are looking at this and Dad is near by......can you show him the state of my roof?  Maybe he will have ideas of how to fix it.  Love you guys.

Fui a San Antonio

$11.50 for the ticket.
WiFi didn't work.
Beautiful day!
Lunch by the River walk.
Nature at it's best.
Didn't have time to sit much....too much to see.
Stopped to watch a dance recital.
Dad and I would have gotten a good laugh from this.
Didn't have to deal with traffic.  Free parking.  And lot of exercise.  Nice day trip for $11.50.

Yum....

Fui el café de Argentina!  La comida estuvo muy buena.  No recuerdo los nombres de los pasteles.  Lo siento.

Conjugating the verb 'Ser'

Subject pronouns on the board.
Today I realized that él looks the same as the singular masculine article 'el',   The subject pronoun 'ella' has the singular feminine article 'la' in it.  'Ellos' has the plural masculine article 'los' in it....and guess what.....'Ellas' has the plural feminine article 'las' in it.

Also, the conjugation of the verb 'ser' for the nosotros (as) form has an 'm' (somos) which could be turned upside down to form the letter 'w' for the subject pronoun 'we'

Kids made their own note cards of the conjugation of 'ser' to help them on this worksheet.
I would say the subject, (also, have a card with a subject on it ) and they would raise up which conjugated form of 'ser' they would use.  If I said 'los abuelos' and my card said 'los abuelos' they would raise their 'son' card.......'los' is in the subject pronoun 'Ellos'.

They hear it, see it, say it, and then use their muscles to lift up the correct card.

Freshman to Senior

There are pros and cons to teaching freshman.   Pros:   I like that there is a little bit of fear in them because they are the low men on the totem pole.  You impress upon them the importance of certain skills that will help them be successful in the future.  And most of the time they comply because they see the importance or they are too afraid to be defiant.  Cons:  As a teacher you rarely see if the students continue to use those skills throughout their high school experience.  The years pass by and all of a sudden my freshman students are seniors ready to graduate.

Today was special.  One of my old students (a senior) came to me and showed me his notes from his college prep class.  He wanted to let me know that he is still using the skills I taught him from freshman year....the skill of writing margin notes.  And of course I had to take a picture...... a very proud mama of my former student.

Happy V day in my spelling class

Since my Spanish class got candy hearts with spanish sayings...I thought it only fair to have sweets in my other classes.  Would hate for my body to go through sugar with-drawls during my other classes.  So, I encouraged my other students to bring in goodies from their homes in order to celebrate this holiday that seems to be designed .........well, we all have our own thoughts about this holiday.
4th period:  These were the best!!!!!
6th period:  Brownies that got squished from being in the backpack all day.
6th period:  More chocolate chip...seemed to be the theme for treats.
7th period:  Chocolate chip with a bit of color.....
Seemed like 7th period was drawn to the colorful treats....

Feliz día de San Valentin en mi clase de español

Mis estudiantes estuvieron muy feliz!
Ellos pensaban 'DALE'- (Give it to me)...fue divertido.
Ellos que tomaron las fotos

My first bad word in Spanish

I hope the only school policy I broke today was letting my student take out and look at his cell phone in class.  But was reassured of my innocence and trying to think I have good kids.

"Miss........., a friend texted me in Spanish and he used the word 'Perra'.  Is that bad?  Can I show you the text?"

Me:  "Sure".....after reading it...."Would think that would be a female dog."

After googling it......

Me:  "Yep, female dog."

Today, I have learned my first Spanish swear word.  Kinda sad.  But another good reason cell phones need to stay in their backpacks.

Now for Sweets in my Spanish class.

I scream, You scream, we all scream for ice cream!

El helado y las grasas.

Trying to incorporate vegetables in Spanish class

Los guisantes y las zanahorias
Los huevos, el arroz, y el pollo.....La comida chino (Chicken Fried Rice.)
Las cebollas, los tomates, y la salsa (Gallo Pinto)

Special day for Miss........

In my SARA classes my students have to spell words that do not follow the spelling rules.  To help my students I give them sentences as a study strategy.

Example:  Lieutenant.  Sentence:  LIE to the lieutenant and U might get TEN ANTs for a punishment.

4th period.  A freshman student said in my class.

Student:  "Miss ........, when I take the SAT I'm going to tell them that I need to use my phone so that I can call my 9th grade SARA teacher."

Me:  "Why?"

Student:  "So you can give me a sentence for when I need to spell the hard words for my SAT essay."

Being needed never gets old.

6th period.  A freshman student said in my class.

Student:  "Miss ........ you would be so proud of me today."

Me:  "Why?"

Student:  "My friend asked me to spell a word and your voice popped into my head and gave me a sentence.....and I spelled the word correctly!"

I am truly blessed.
Cool paper to use as a study strategy.

Got more Costa Rican Salsa!!!!

Estoy muy feliz!!!!!!!

My favorite cooking salsa.
Gallo pinto
For my Spanish class.
One of my students went to Costa Rica for the weekend to build a house for a family in need.  And he brought me back 6 bottles of my favorite salsa.  So, of course.....I made gallo pinto and incorporated it into my food lesson.  I told the students it had el arroz, las cebollas, los tomates, los frijoles, y la salsa desde Costa Rica.
Afterwards a student said....this is so cool...I understood everything Miss ......... said in Spanish.  Yes, very cool and my cooking didn't make any of the students sick.....Yay for Miss ........
