Spelling with Gummy Letters

We are working on Blends and so I had the kids come up with words that contained Blends.  They had to use a gummy letter in each word and underline the blend in the word.  When I saw that they had done this correctly then I gave them another consonant.  If they couldn't come up with a real word then they could make up words.  If the blend was wrong then we talked about why it was wrong and then crossed it out on the table.

Homecoming Week/ Spirit Day

Last day of Homecoming and I am exhausted!  We had 20 minute classes and an afternoon to bake in the hot Texas sun!  We were suppose to wear a school spirit shirt with jeans.  I detest jeans.....  And I think the person who came up with skinny jean is anorexic or on drugs.  I would like to show them my thighs and ask them, 'What were you thinking!"  If I have to buy a long shirt/sweater to cover my thighs because of wearing skinny jeans then what is the point of wearing jeans at all?  Do people think they look skinnier just because they are called "skinny jeans'?  And forget this "I'm proud of my voluptuous body and going to show the world that I don't care what they think".....stand point.  That was me in my early 20's when I wore see through blouses......thankfully I have matured since then.  I would prefer that my jeans didn't cut off my circulation or give me a muffin top.  And if you are skinny enough to wear skinny jeans then I don't want to look at your skinny legs anyway.

So I opted to wear a skirt.  :)
BTS:  Buck the Sheep.  Yes it is suppose to be 'Buck the System'.  But I was in a meeting where a teacher said she 'Bucked the Sheep'.  And I thought....who bucks sheep?  I replied that I didn't care if she bucked the sheep but I was not going to be bucking any sheep any time soon.

Well, another teacher has some auditory discrimination issues and she did not hear 'buck' but heard another word that starts with 'f' and rhymes with 'buck'.  So this whole conversation she was shocked that one of her old teachers was saying this curse word....with 'sheep'.

We laughed so hard at the meeting I decided that I needed to make a T-Shirt so I would never forget that saying again.

Team Robert:  Robert has been one of our guards since I started and he finally became an employee at our school.  For years we have been paying a company so we could use this sweet, kindhearted, respectful guy.  Well now he is one of us and a co-worker and I started saying 'Go Team Robert' every time we walked past him.  And I love that I put the 'e' upside down because it looks like a schwa!

Here's to another great Homecoming week.  Some day maybe I will find my old pictures of past Homecoming weeks so I can have them collectively on this blog......Now that I think about it; I probably won't have that much time available until I'm in my 90's.

Homecoming Week! Decade/Throw back Thursday

I was going to wear my poodle skirt but too many girls wanted to dress up 50's style.  So then I was going to break out the 80's look....but that was going to be a popular choice as well.....I could have done the 90's grunge but I didn't have my black combat boots to complete the look.

So, I rummaged through my closet and looked through some Pintrest ideas.....came to the conclusion that I could pull off a 40's look and not have to make a trip to the store.
Got the perfect curls by sleeping in my spongy curlers!

My fake eyelashes kept getting caught in my netting.

Wanted to get a picture before the humidity ruined my hair!
The kids loved my mink stole!

Had the lines going up the back of my stockings!
Got the vintage jewelery from my Uncle who found three boxes of jewelery from the dumpster.
Me glamming it up for the camera.
Could not get the victory rolls right.  I had to roll a spongy curler in each one to get the look I wanted.  I forget what it is called but I read last night that ladies would save the hair from their brush and make a hair roll to help with victory rolls.
My victory curls took forever!
Homecoming week is my favorite week out of the year!

Homecoming Week! Texas Day!

Going BIG or dying trying....
Rhinestone jeans from my Aunt.

Track shirt from my Dad.
A student said that my outfit....flowed!
Fake eyelashes took forever!!!!!
Kids asked me all day if that was my real hair!
So my hair didn't get as big as I wanted.

Blinged out my nails!

Homecoming Week! World Peace/Hippie

Dried Flowers on my nails.

Wore my mom's bridesmaid dress from my Aunt's wedding, jewelery made out of wood, and a headpiece made out of dried apple seeds......didn't make it....it was an old broken necklace that I made into a headband.

Growing up so fast!

The day he was born!
Two weeks old!
A month old!
5 months old!
Just the other day (awake)!
Just the other day (asleep)!

Halloween is around the corner!

So, I got a request to make a Bat Queen Crown and Mask.  And I found there wasn't much inspiration on the internet, as pictures go, which is appropriate for a 7 year old girl.  This past weekend I ended up going to several different stores to be inspired and hoped for good sales.  All was going well, until my third store was out of black roses and black lace......after a good 5 seconds of panic I got my emotions under control and got refocused.
Found this in the dollar section.

The finished product after I added some bling.

The crown turned into more of a head-dress.

Added the black lace to come cascading down the back.

Was thrilled to find black roses dipped in glitter!

Here's hoping my niece will share some of her Halloween candy with me after giving her this masterpiece!
