Closed syllables- vowel short; closed with a consonant
Digraphs- two consonant letters that make one sound
Blends- two/three consonants together to make a blended sound
Welds- two/three letters welded together (consonant after vowel is a nasal consonant)
Closed syllable exceptions- vowel is closed by a consonant but the vowel is long....does not follow the closed syllable rule
