La carne en mi clase de español.

Dinner is hard to make (in the classroom) when you only have a microwave...and ten students hungry at the same time.  Went back to the 'sandwich' idea because I can ask so many questions....Maybe over the weekend I'll have more time to be creative.
Los pescados.....didn't want my room to smell like fish...so used Goldfish.
Sin carne.
El bistec.....Roast beef.
If I had the money I would buy them the whole cow...but on a teacher's salary....we are improvising.

El pollo.
Y jamón.....for review from the last chapter.

Spelling with cereal

Can write on the table with dry erase markers.
Or write on a paper towel.
My reading program calls the word 'shoulder' a sight word because it does not follow the spelling rules.  'OU' in 'shoulder' does not follow the regular sounds as in 'trout' or 'soup'.  Therefore, spelling the word 'shoulder' for a lot of people is difficult.

But when you get to eat and learn at the same time.....that is where the magic happens.  :)

Quiero, necesito, tengo.....en mi clase de español

Cornell Notes to help each student.
Cornell Notes with fake food.
Por ejemplo:

 La profesora:  ¿Qué quieres?
El estudiante:  Yo quiero la pizza.
La profesora:  ¿Qué necesitas?
El estudiante:  Necesito el jugo de naranja.
La profesora:  ¿Qué tienes?
El estudiante:  Tengo las papas fritas.

They can use the Cornell Notes to understand and answer the question in Spanish.  The food gives them a visual or something to manipulate in their hands to remember.  And it works!  I wouldn't share my cookies with anyone because they were my favorite.  The class made a big deal; saying in (Spanish) they didn't have (no tenían) the cookies, they wanted (querían) the cookies, but Miss........ needed (necesario) the cookies.

The following week a student couldn't remember the English translation for "las Galletas".  I told him that "Las Galletas son la comida favorita de Señorita ........".....he thought...said "AAAAA"....laughed....and wrote down 'cookies' on the test.

El desayuno para mi clase de español. (Parte dos)

So I ask each student:  ¿Quieres el cereal?

And they have to respond:  "Sí, quiero el cereal."  o  "No, quiero el cereal."
El cereal
Then I ask each student:  ¿Qué quieres....la leche or el yogur con el cereal?

And they have to respond:  "Yo quiero la leche."  o  "Yo quiero el yogur."
El cereal con leche
El cereal con yogur
Comer y apprender al mismo tiempo.  Encantada!

It Snowed and NO Snow Day....What?

I know....I know....compared to what I had in Chicago this is nothing....but I've been spoiled for the last ten years.  And it always gives me a good laugh when we have a Snow Day.....because in Chicago we only had a Snow Day when the snow plow person didn't show up.

My craziness......taking 150% to a new level.

This is when I need my sister to be near me to say 'NO' to my craziness.....usually I buy the rice in a bag so I know portion sizes.  But when I opened the box of rice there were no bags.....YIKES.  I did follow the instructions (microwave) I did 3 cups of rice with 3 cups of water.  But that didn't look right.......so in another bowl (stovetop) I did 3 more cups of rice to 3 more cups of water.

To my amazement....they both worked beautifully!  And to my astonishment....I ended up cooking the entire box of rice.
First batch of rice I made Gallo Pinto (in the back behind the pizzas....second story of my craziness).
Second batch...in the freezer.
Apparently, I was really excited to have the opportunity to get two free packages of chicken breasts when purchasing only one package of chicken breast.  So, not only did I go crazy with rice....I ended up cooking the chicken and making two pizzas, mostacholi, and enchiladas......

Sister, O sister....wherefore art thou?

I ended up dividing up the food, putting them in freezer containers, and now I'm set for lunch and dinner for the next month...or two.  :)

Sister, O sister.....want to come for dinner?

El almuerzo para mi clase de español.

(Yo) ¿Quieres el pan?  (Estudiante) Sí, quiero el pan.
(Yo) ¿Quieres el queso?  (Estudiante) Sí, quiero el queso.
(Yo) ¿Quieres el jamón?  (Estudiante) Sí, quiero el jamón.
Mis estudiantes están muy feliz.
Gave them the option of mayo or mustard.
(Yo) ¿Quieres la leche?  (Estudiante) Sí, quiero la leche con mi sándwich.
Gave them Cornell Notes to help them answer my questions.
Learning with experience.  They hear the Spanish, speak the Spanish, manipulate the items while speaking Spanish, can see the Spanish words on the Cornell Notes, while smelling and tasting the food!  LOVE multi-sensory teaching!!!!!!!

Had a student tell me....."  So, Miss .....if this teaching thing doesn't work out for you.....you can always come to my house and cook for me."   AAWWWWW......Yes!  Plan B is in place!

Didn't put enough cheese for third period....5th periods eggs were better.
El pan
Mis estudiantes disfrutaron y aprendieron al mismo tiempo.

The birthday card for my nephew

Shark can move up and down.
Wanted the shark to be able to move around like it was swimming.
The other side has a turtle that he can manipulate.
Here you can see the ribbon through the eyelet....that was a pain in the you know what...
Don't know why it didn't work for me.

Mi clase de español esta estudiando la comida

La comida falsa y las bebidas.
Mis estudiantes le gustaron las galletas.
Using the vocabulary sheet with the manipulation of materials.

Flying back to Texas.

When I was a girl, my favorite part of flying on a plane was seeing all the clouds through my window.  I wanted so badly to escape the plane so I could frolic on top of the fluffy white clouds (of course wearing a gorgeous shinning ball gown next to a unicorn).  Now when I see the clouds from the sky I think back, with fondness of how blessed I was to have the freedom to dream without fear (before knowing about the reality of science).  A little shout out to my 'sobrina' who once prayed that God would give her wings so she could fly.
Mt. Hood from the plane.
Tried getting a picture of the city as we were heading toward the clouds.
The mountain again.
Reality set aside....to me, it looks so inviting.
Love looking down at the shapes and colors of God's goodness.
A quilt of God's blessings.
